Quality produces Quantity

A few years back, I was wondering, why can't my unit become as big as other units itself. I keep thinking and thinking, till one day I decided to ask Bee about it. Well, his answer was simple, coz' we are focusing on quality and not quantity... So I thought, fine by it... quality matters so I decided to just go along and upgrade myself to be competent even to produce quality scouts that would be useful in their own lives...

Then I saw a dip in quality over the years, not only in my unit, but units around Singapore. Whereby skills weren't passed on properly, scouts just playing around soccer each and everyday... doing activities that are of no use in their scouting life and skills. How to improve Scouting in Singapore neh?

Well, today I was kinda please to leave the Secondary ones alone to do some pioneering project. I was please at the fact that they took the initiative to do things and ensure that others just does slack at one side. So I wondered, how come they are so willing to learn and do such stuff on their own. I had a gut feeling that with the kinda guidance I received in my Secondary one and two scouting life, and if it can be passed on to them... they'll be as strong and skillful as my batch. Of coz' the other seniors are improving bit by bit...

Well, back to quality produces quantity. Have you ever wonder why some clubs or CCA are such a hot-spot in schools or in the society? Why do people go back there constantly...Why do new people find it interesting at there? I hope to achieve this feeling, this sensation in scouting? especially in the Rover crew.

For White Stag, I believe in them achieving greater heights as the years go on. They're not just old... they're also hip and young at the heart. The heart, represents the members of the unit! Scouting is a boys game... a man's job to lead. That's what we used to say before girls in scouting came about. Well, no comments about that!

I believe that quality would slowly produces quantity. However, without quality, the amount of people adding up would still be useless compared to a smaller number of people doing a task. Mr Pah. once commented, a Patrol Leader is as good as 7 members in a patrol. I have to agreed with him.As a Patrol Leader, you must be competent enough to take care of your scouts and lead them well. Not only during meetings, but also in their own lives.

Footdrill Course Instructor... today, I see another new batch of scouts going through 'middle earth' (coz' it wasn't really hell yet) kinda shit. I have to agreed that strict discipline must be enforce in it. If you were to play with them, they wouldn't take it seriously. However, know the limits too. As an instructor, you must at least experience what the boys are going through... you must know the mistakes and loopholes and able to rectify them before the boys do... you must be able to foresee the dangers and stay ahead of whatever the boys are going to do...

Such heavy responsibilities, isn't really just some tom, dick or hairy can do... (just a lame joke). It takes guts, it takes confidence, it takes respect and courage in all difficulties to be able to do so. Ben commented that I have a 'never-say-die' attitude... well if I didn't say that would the group believe in completing the project in time and with life in it? I don't know about that. I just believe in your guys...

So yeah, for those who I am believing in... keep it up. I'll be there to support you too! Cheers people. You got my support and strength!

Here are some people that I love at the Scout's HQ. Look out for them!
